Landgraf's Double-Double Leads MU Women at Del Val

The Misericordia University women's basketball team used a big third quarter to defeat Delaware Valley, 64-58, Wednesday.
 
Caitlin Landgraf led the Cougars with a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds and Morgan Janeski added 17 points with two assists. Chase Purdy added 10 points and five rebounds while Emily Romanowski almost earned another double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.
 
Misericordia scored its first points of the game on a Romanowski layup at the 9:22 mark.
 
The Aggies took the lead, but the Cougars quickly regained it with a 7–2 scoring run. Lizzy Mitchell started the run with a three-pointer from the top of the arc and Marisa Captoni followed with a layup off a long pass.
 
Purdy added a jumper from inside the restricted area to put the Cougars ahead by three with 3:31 remaining in the first quarter.
 
Purdy scored MU's final points of the quarter on a jumper from the left block and a layup off another long pass. The Aggies scored five straight points to end the first quarter with a 15-13 lead.

Misericordia opened the second quarter with a 7–0 run. Landgraf sank a jumper from the left elbow, Romanowski made a driving layup, and Janeski knocked down a three-pointer from the top of the arc to give MU a 20–15 lead with 8:14 to play in the quarter.

The Aggies regained the lead, but Janeski drilled a jumper from the free throw line and Landgraf finished a layup to put the Cougars back in front with 3:47 remaining. Delaware Valley once again took the lead and extended it to four, but a Landgraf free throw cut the deficit to three at halftime, 30-27.

Janeski opened the third quarter by tying the game at 30 with a three-pointer from the left corner.

Landgraf scored the next five points for the Cougars, hitting a jumper inside the restricted area and a three-pointer from the left wing to give Misericordia a 36–32 advantage with 7:24 left in the quarter.

A Captoni jumper from just inside the three-point line and another Janeski three from the left corner put MU ahead by two possessions, 41-35, with 4:14 remaining.

Captoni's layup off a long pass, along with free throws from Landgraf, gave the Cougars their first double-digit lead, 45-35, with 3:17 to go.

Janeski added a three-pointer from the right wing and a Romanowski layup extended the lead to 50–39 with just over a minute left in the quarter.

The Aggies trimmed the lead to eight and Misericordia led 50–42 heading into the final quarter.

Romanowski and Purdy opened the fourth quarter with layups and a Janeski layup and a Purdy jumper off an offensive rebound pushed the Cougars back to a double-digit lead with 6:41 remaining.

Landgraf hit back-to-back jumpers, with one in the paint and another just beyond the free throw line, to give MU a 62–49 lead with 2:41 to play.

The Aggies responded with a 9–0 run to cut the lead to four, but Landgraf delivered a crucial layup under the basket with 18 seconds left.
