The Misericordia University hockey team dropped a tough 5-3 decision to Alvernia, Friday evening at the Toyota SportsPlex.
The Cougars jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one period, but the Golden Wolves scored twice in the second and third periods.
Brendan Vettraino scored twice for the Cougars while
Ethan Hollingsworth added a goal and
Jack Tos had two assists.
Vettraino gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with a tough-angle shot from the left win at 8:20.
After Alvernia tied it four minutes later, the Cougars added a pair of power play goals later in the period.
The Cougars went on the power play with 2:36 remaining in the opening period.Â
Nolan Berner played a pass to Vettraino along the blue line where he skated in on the right side and a fired a wrist shot inside the left post.
MU earned another power play less than a minute later and Hollingsworth stuffed a rebound inside the right post to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead.
Alvernia scored early in the second period and pulled even at 14:43.
The Golden Wolves went in front for the first time with a short-handed goal early in the third period and added an insurance goal at 14:47.
