The Misericordia University men's basketball team was upset by Delaware Valley, 78-57, Tuesday night in Doylestown.
Jack Gallagher led the Cougars in multiple categories, scoring 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Timothy Avrine added eight points.
Gallagher scored the first points of the game for the Cougars on a layup and a free throw. The Aggies responded by pulling ahead to a four-point lead.
Gallagher added another layup and Patrick Brown hit two free throws to tie the game at seven apiece with 13:42 left in the half.
After the Aggies went on an 11–1 run to take a 10-point lead, Misericordia clawed back.
Nate Townsend hit the Cougars first three-pointer from the left wing and D.J. Orloff converted a putback to cut Delaware Valley's lead in half with 8:56 remaining.
Delaware Valley went on a 28-2 scoring run to close the half to take a 46-15 lead.
Misericordia's first points of the second half came from a Gallagher free throw and a jumper from the left block by Orloff.
Gallagher scored the next seven Cougar points on three layups and a free throw.
MU followed with back-to-back layups from Colin Cavanaugh and Avrine.
The Cougars later scored seven consecutive points on layups by Avrine and Austin Peluso along with a three-pointer from the top of the arc by Bryson Fenwick with 12:16 remaining.
Avrine connected on the Cougars next two baskets — a driving layup and a dunk — with 8:38 to go. Gallagher and Orloff added consecutive layups with 5:03 left.
Misericordia went on a 6–0 run, highlighted by a jumper from Fenwick at the free-throw line, two free throws by DJ Fox, and a jumper in the restricted area by Devin Desruisseau.
Peluso and Noah Dewey made their free throws to close out the game.
