The Misericordia University baseball team lost to Ursinus, 8–5, Saturday afternoon as the two teams split their series at the University of Delaware.
Vin Proietto had two hits and two RBI, including a double, and Dylan Cerone added a hit and a run scored. Owen Cordner scored and drove in a run.
Misericordia took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Cerone led off with a hit to left field and went to third on Shane Patten's double to center field.
Cordner brought Cerone home with an RBI-groundout to give the Cougars a 1–0 lead.
Ursinus responded with four runs in the top of the third on a double, a groundout and a single.
The Cougars clawed back in the bottom of the third. Proietto reached first on an error followed by a double from Brooks Kanwisher. A groundout by Drew Van Horn advanced Proietto home, cutting the Bears lead to 4–2 after three innings.
After Ursinus added another run in the top of the fifth, Misericordia answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Joe Peters started the inning with a walk. After a fielder's choice by Cordner and a hit-by-pitch to Owen Daminger, Proietto ripped a double down the right-field line, scoring Cordner and Daminger and shrinking Ursinus's lead to 5–4 after seven innings.
Ursinus scored three runs in the top of the eighth on two singles.
Misericordia added one more run in the bottom of the ninth. Gavin Dillard doubled down the left-field line and later scored when Daminger reached on an error. However, that was all the Cougars could manage, and Ursinus secured the save.
