Penn College Edges MU Men's Lacrosse

The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team lost a close game at Penn College, 16-14, Saturday.

Down 14-10 early in the fourth quarter, Misericordia scored four straight goals to tie the game, but the Wildcats scored twice in the final 3:28.

Jack Simone led the Cougars with five goal while Ty Murawski scored three times and Aiden D'Ambrosio scored twice. Jason Giambrone led MU with three assists.

After an early Penn College goal, the score was equalized when Simone picked up a ground ball, ran to the net, and tucked a shot over the goalkeeper's shoulder.

The Wildcats then took a 3-1 lead, but the Cougars kept it close with another goal. Ian Young whipped a shot past the goalkeeper to cut the lead to 3-2 with 6:54 remaining in the quarter.

Penn added three more goals, and at the end of the first quarter, Misericordia trailed 6-2.

Misericordia clawed back by scoring the first two goals of the second quarter. Patrick Dwyer fired a shot into the top of the net, and then, after a Wildcat turnover, D'Ambrosio looped around the net and whipped a shot underneath the goalkeeper to cut the deficit to 6-4 with 11:34 left in the half.

After another Penn goal, Murawski unleashed a shot into the top right corner of the net. Ryan Franchi charged in front of the net and dumped the ball into the net for the Cougars sixth goal with 4:25 remaining in the second quarter.

Penn College scored two more goals before halftime, and at the break, Penn College led Misericordia, 9-6.

Penn College scored the first two goals of the third quarter, but Simone responded with three consecutive goals to bring the score to 12-9.

He tucked in the first, then ran in front of the net and fired in the second. After a Penn goal, Simone scored again on a man-up opportunity, pulling the Cougars within three with 8:45 left in the third quarter.

D'Ambrosio added another goal, slipping a shot into the bottom right corner to cut the deficit to two. The Wildcats scored twice more before the end of the quarter, and with 15 minutes remaining, Penn College led, 14-10.

Misericordia opened the fourth quarter with four straight goals to tie the game at 14-14.

On a man-up opportunity, Giambrone stuffed the ball into the top left corner of the net. Murawski followed with a charging shot and then added another goal off a rebound, bringing the Cougars within one with 7:53 to play.

Simone scored his fifth goal on a low shot past the goalkeeper to tie the game at 14 with 5:35 remaining in the game.

Unfortunately, Penn College found two more goals to seal the win.
