The Misericordia University baseball team fell at York in a back and forth game, 9–8, Wednesday.
Gavin Dillard went 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored while
Bryant Diaz also recorded three hits, including two doubles and an RBI.
After the Spartans took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Misericordia responded in the top of the third.
Ben St. Pierre reached on an error and, stole second and scored when Dillard ripped a double into the left-center gap. After advancing to third on a groundout, Dillard later scored on a wild pitch, tying the game at two apiece after three innings.
York scored twice in the fourth and Misericordia answered in the top of the fifth.
Brooks Kanwisher started the inning with an infield single and moved to third on a Dillard double down the third-base line. Kanwisher scored on a sacrifice fly by
Shane Patten and Misericordia tied the game on Diaz' double over the left fielder's head.
The Cougars took the lead in the top of the sixth.
Michael Duda reached on an error and Andrew Van Horn was hit by a pitch. Both advanced on a sacrifice bunt and Duda scored on a bunt single by Kanwisher. Dillard collected his third hit of the day with a single to left field that scored Van Horn.
York took a 7–6 lead in the sixth.
Misericordia responded again in the top of the seventh.
Owen Daminger was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He scored when Duda singled to left field. Misericordia loaded the bases but could not bring in another run in the inning, creating a 7-7 score line after seven innings.
The Cougars regained the lead in the top of the eighth. Patten started the inning with a walk, and after an error and a hit by pitch loaded the bases,
Vin Proietto lifted a sacrifice fly to score a run to make it an 8-7 Cougars lead.
York scored twice in the bottom of the eighth for the winning margin.
The Cougars threatened in their final at bat when St. Pierre singled to start the inning, but was stranded at third base.
