MU Offense Explodes in MAC Freedom Opener

The Misericordia University baseball team defeated Delaware Valley, 17-9, in their first conference game of the season, Friday afternoon.

Shane Patten was 4-4 with three RBI and two runs scored while Jake McDonough had two hits and five RBI, including a three-run home run.

Bryan Henry picked up his fourth win of the season while allowing just one run and striking out four.

Misericordia pounced immediately in the bottom of the first. Brooks Kanwisher walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Gavin Dillard walked and both runners scored on Patten's double to left center field. Owen
Daminger walked and McDonough cleared the bases with a double deep into center field to bring Misericordia up 4-0 after one inning.

The Cougars added two more runs in the bottom of the second. Ben St. Pierre singled to centerfield and advanced to third on a Kanwisher double. Both scored on an error and MU led 6-0 after two innings.

Misericordia plated two more in the fourth inning. St. Pierre started the inning with a double off the wall in left center and advanced to third on a groundout. Dillard knocked him in with a single to center. Patten doubled down the
right field line to advance Dillard to third and Daminger made it 8-0 on an RBI-ground out.

Misericordia's offense exploded with an eight-run fifth inning. Michael Duda singled to left field and moved to third on a single by St. Pierre. Kanwisher lined a double down the left field line to drive in a run and Dillard followed with an RBI-ground out.  Patten doubled in a run and Bryant Diaz singled.  Daminger drove in a run with a single and McDonough cleared the bases with a three-run home run to left center. Rafael Fernandez hit a pinch-hit RBI-
double to give MU a 16-0 lead.
