The Misericordia University baseball team defeated fifth-ranked Kean, 10-8, Tuesday.
Shane Patten went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while
Bryant Diaz added two hits and two RBI.
Aidan Paduck picked up the win in relief and
Zak Lussier secured his second consecutive save.
Misericordia struck early with three runs in the top of the first.
Brooks Kanwisher singled and advanced to second on
Gavin Dillard's single through the right side. Both runners advanced on a pass ball and Patten gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with a single to center. Diaz laced a double into the left center gap to score two more and Misericordia led 3-0 after a half inning of play.
Kean scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two more in the third inning to take the lead.
The Cougars answered in the top of the fourth.
Owen Daminger walked to start the inning and stole second. He advanced to third on a ground out and scored on
Michael Duda's singled up the middle to tie the score, 4-4.
Kean took a 7-4 lead after the fifth inning, but Misericordia clawed back in the top of the sixth. Diaz led off the inning with a single to right field, stole second and advanced to third on
Jake McDonough's infield single.
Drew Van Horn plated a run with a single through the left side and McDonough scored on a balk to cut Kean's lead to 7-6.
MU reclaimed the lead in the seventh inning. Dillard reached on an error and scored when Patten ripped a triple into the right center gap to tie the score, 7-7. Â Daminger's infield single gave Misericordia an 8-7 lead.
Kean tied the game at 8-8 with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Cougars bounced back in the top of the ninth.
Dillard started the inning with a single to center field and moved to second when Diaz walked. Daminger reached on an infield single a throwing error allowed MU to score the go-ahead run. McDonough's  single through the left side provided an insurance run.
Paduck worked a scoreless eighth to earn the win and Lussier retired the side in order in the ninth for the save.
