Fischer Leads MU Women Over Ramapo

The Misericordia University women's lacrosse team improved to 3-2 after a 14-8 win over Ramapo College, Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Riley Fischer led the Cougars with four goals while Kristen Travaglini recorded six points (2g 4a). Delaney Campanella and Adison Harner also scored two goals apiece.

Trailing 1-0 with just under seven minutes left in the first quarter, Travaglini fed Fischer in front of the net for the equalizer to tie the game at 1-1.

Nearly two minutes later, Alicia Pileggi found Ashtyn Torbert in the middle and she quickly turned and fired into the back of the net to give Misericordia a 2-1 lead.

The final goal of the quarter came from Travaglini as she capitalized on a free-position opportunity to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead heading into the second.

Misericordia kept up the pressure in the second quarter, forcing a turnover before Raya Scheffler dished to a wide-open Harner for an easy finish.

Leading 4-2, Pileggi blew past the defense and into the lane, putting the ball into the net to extend the advantage to 5-2.

Despite the strong start, the Cougars went into halftime with a 6-4 lead after a short Ramapo run to close the half.

Misericordia came out strong in the second half with back-to-back goals from Raegan Harner and Jenna Jacques within the first minute of the third quarter.

Ramapo answered quickly, but Campanella responded by driving in from the right side and sneaking a low shot past the goalie. The Cougars added three more goals in the quarter to take a commanding 12-6 lead into the fourth.

Fischer scored both of Misericordia's goals in the final quarter, sealing the 14-8 victory.

Ryann Gross made five saves to earn the win in goal.
