MU Men's Lax Wins MAC Freedom Opener

The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team beat FDU-Florham, 19-4, in their first game of MAC Freedom Conference play, Wednesday night.
 
Jack Simone led the Cougars with seven goals and four assists as the Cougars won their sixth straight game to improve to 7-3 overall.
 
Ian Young added five goals and Ty Murawski had two goals and an assist and Ryan Franchi scored twice.
 
Leyton Sullivan secured 15 saves and Rusty Carr had six ground balls.
 
Misericordia took an early lead at 13:46 in the first quarter. Young whipped the ball from the center of the field on a bounce shot past the goalkeeper to put Misericordia up 1-0.
 
FDU-Florham equalized with 12:32 left and took a 2-1 lead with 1:32 remaining in the first quarter.
 
Misericordia responded quickly with two goals in less than a minute by Simone.  He bounced a shot in between the FDU goalkeeper's legs with 1:20 to play and charged down the field and unleashed a shot that found the bottom right corner of the net to put the Cougars up 3-2 with :28 left in  the first quarter.
 
Simone earned his hat trick on the first goal of the second quarter. With 13:10 to go, he whipped a shot into the upper right corner of the net to extend MU's lead to 4-2.
 
Ty Murawski scored a man-up goal to give MU a 5-3 lead midway through the second quarter.
 
Misericordia again scored two in less than a minute. Simone added goal number four directly off a Devils turnover and Jason Giambrone scored on a jump shot directly in front of the net with 5:16 left in the half.
 
Murawski added his second of the day when he retrieved a short pass and whipped it into the top right corner to put MU up 8-3. 
 
Young added the last goal of the half with a shot into the lower right corner to give Misericordia a 9-3 lead.
 
FDU-Florham scored to open the third period, but the Cougars scored the final 10 goals of the game.
 
Mark Kenny added to the Cougars lead on a diving shot in front of the net and Young produced back-to-back goals to make it 12-4.
 
Simone added his fifth goal of the night from the right side and lined the ball into the left side of the net. They extended their margin to double digits when Ryan Franchi charged from all the way down the field to score less than a minute later to extend MU's lead to 14-4.
 
Misericordia scored just 17 seconds into the fourth quarter as Simone tucked in his sixth goal of the night. He added his seventh just a few minutes later from a shot in the center of the field, and with 10:44 to go in the game Misericordia led 17-4.
 
Ryan Franchi found his second goal of the night on a charging shot that he bounced past the goalkeeper.
 
Max Stadler scored his first career goal directly in front of the net for the final goal of the night.
