The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team improved to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in the MAC Freedom after an 18-12 win over King's College, Wednesday night.
Jack Simone led the Cougars with six goals, two assists and six ground balls while
Jason Giambrone added five goals and an assist.
Ty Murawski posted three goals.
Rusty Carr was 17-of-24 on face-offs and collected 14 ground balls.
The Cougars offense came to play early as Giambrone beat his defender from behind the goal and slotted it past the goalie to give Misericordia the lead just over a minute into the game.
He kept the pressure on, beating his defender again and scoring on the opposite side of the cage as the Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening four minutes.
With just over six minutes left in the first, King's got on the board, but Misericordia responded with a 3-0 run to close the quarter. Back-to-back goals from Giambrone and a strike from Simone pushed the lead to 5-1 at the end of one.
After consecutive King's goals opened the second quarter, Misericordia answered with three straight scores from
Ryan Franchi, Simone and
Ian Young, extending the lead to 8-3 with just over 10 minutes left in the half.
Leading 8-5, Franchi connected with Murawski, who finished in front of the net to make it 9-5 with 2:20 remaining.
Aiden D'Ambrosio added another goal just over a minute later, though a late King's score cut the deficit to 10-6 at halftime.
The Cougars took control in the third quarter, erupting for eight goals while holding King's to just one to build a commanding advantage, 18-7.
