The Misericordia University men's soccer team came out on top of a penalty kick shootout for the second straight match to win the Freedom Conference championship, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Playing a man down and with Wilkes clinging to a 1-0 lead, the Cougars notched the game-tying goal with just eight seconds remaining in regulation.
With precious seconds ticking away,
Max Campbell lofted a big throw from the left sideline and
Tim Bullis headed it inside the right post to force overtime.
Neither team was especially dangerous in the two overtime periods as both only managed one shot over 20 minutes.
In the shootout,
Alec Parker put Misericordia up 1-0 and
Doug Moore responded for the Colonels.
Wilkes keeper
TJ Baloga dived to his right to stop MU's second attempt and
Andrew Loyd was equal to the task for the Cougars.
Joe Scanlon buried his attempt for a 2-1 Misericordia advantage and
James Humenansky netted the equalizer for Wilkes.

Arthur Jankowski both converted to make it 3-3 with one shooter remaining.
Baloga went to his left to make a save and give the Colonels a chance for the win, but Loyd made another diving stop to force sudden death.
Cody Harman buried his attempt for 4-3 MU lead and
Matt Sankey answered for Wilkes.
Josh Yoo gave the Cougars a 5-4 lead and Loyd went to his left to clinch the win and the Tournament MVP award.
After a scoreless first period, Wilkes took a 1-0 lead on
Sean Vona's penalty kick less than a minute into the second period.
Misericordia played the final 40 minutes a man down after a red-card violation.
Loyd made two saves for the Cougars plus three stops in the shootout while Baloga had four total saves, including two in the shootout.
MU, 14-3-3, won the first Freedom Conference title in school history and advances to the NCAA Division III championships.
Wilkes is 10-7-3 and will await a potential ECAC berth.
