The Misericordia University baseball team got eight innings out of starting pitcher Ryan Dauley and 14 hits out of its offense en route to a 12-2 romp over Drew Wednesday. The Cougars improve to 11-8 (0-1 Freedom).
Dauley carried a no-hitter into the sixth but was inconsistent with the strike zone. He allowed two runs on three hits and six walks and struck out six.
Jeff Slanovec went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run. Mike Murphy went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, and Mike D'Amara went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs.
The Cougars started the game off with back-to-back three-run innings. Murphy led off with a single and stole second and third before scoring on a D'Amara single in the first. D'Amara scored two batters later on an RBI single by Brandon Calafut, and Slanovec added a run later in the frame.
Murphy ignited the second inning scoring, too, with a single and a stolen base. He scored on a Calafut sac fly. Two other runners would go on to score.
Calafut ended the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Cougars added a run in the fifth and five in the eighth. The biggest blow came with the bases loaded in the eighth. Slanovec bashed a deep double to left center to score Nate Newman and D'Amara.
The Cougars head to Wilkes Friday for a 3 p.m. rematch with the Colonels.
