A late rally fell short as the Misericordia University baseball team dropped a tough 6-4 decision at Wilkes, Friday.
The Cougars allowed five unearned runs in falling behind 6-0 though six innings.
MU battled back with four runs in the top of the eighth.
Cody Hack led off with a walk and moved to third on
Mike Murphy's double down the left field line.
Mike D'Amara reached on an error as both runners advanced.
Nate Newman made it 4-2 on a sacrifice fly and
Brandon Calafut drove in D'Amara with a triple to deep centerfield.
Calafut scored MU's final run on
Jeff Slanovec's groundout.
Murphy and Philippi both had two hits to lead the Cougars.
Steve Peet was the tough-luck loser, allowing just three hits and no earned runs over five innings.
Max Weintraub worked three innings in relief.
MU is 11-9 overall and 0-2 in the Freedom and will visit DeSales for a doubleheader, Saturday.
