The Misericordia University baseball team (16-14, 5-5) dropped a 10-9 home game to Albright Tuesday after failing to bring the tying run in from third in the bottom of the ninth.
The Cougars stranded a total of 12 runners in the loss, but the most painful was Mike Murphy, who reached third after singling, stealing second and advancing on a groundout.
Down 2-0 in the second, Bubba Jasinski slapped an RBI single to right to give the Cougars their only run of the first five innings.
Jeff Slanovec knocked an RBI single in the sixth, but it took a six-run seventh to bring the Cougars into a game that they had trailed by as much as eight runs.
Rob Albertson led off with a single and advanced on a balk and an error. He scored on a single from Murphy to start the rally. Dave Albertson, Nate Newman, Brandon Calafut and Jasinski each earned an RBI as the Cougars hit through the order, and Rob Albertson capped the rally with an RBI single to make it 9-8.
The Lions added a run in the eighth, and Slanovec added one in the bottom of the inning for a final score of 10-9.
Calafut and Slanovec both had three hits. Calafut finished with an RBI and two runs; Slanovec knocked in two and scored one.
Jasinski and Rob Albertson both had two hits. Jasinski knocked in two, and Albertson knocked in one and scored one.
The Cougars host Moravian tomorrow at 4 p.m.
