The Misericordia University baseball team picked up its second straight non-league win, 16-3 over Scranton, Thursday.
The Cougars belted out 24 hits, including five by
Mike Murphy and four each by
Dave Albertson and
Robert Albertson.
Brandon Calafut had three hits and two RBI and
Jeff Slanovec added three hits and two RBI.
Misericordia raced out to a 9-1 lead after three innings to make a winner of
David Smith while improving to 18-14.
Smith scattered eight hits over six innings while striking out two.
Misericordia took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI doubles by
Dave Albertson and Calafut.
In the second,
Nick Kauffman hit a solo home run to spark a four-run rally that included RBI singles by
Dave Albertson and
Jamie Philippi.
The Cougars took advantage to two errors to score three unearned runs in the third to break the game open. Calafut delivered the big blow with a two-run double to right center field.
Cody Hack came on in relief in the seventh inning and tossed two scoreless innings and
Brandon Neumann tossed a scoreless ninth.
Misericordia will host FDU-Florham in Freedom Conference action this Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 noon.
