The Misericordia University baseball team was eliminated from the Freedom Conference playoff race with a pair of losses at Manhattanville, 24-16 and 16-1.
Nate Newman had five hits in the opener, including a two-run homer and two doubles. He tied the school single-season record with his ninth homer.
Mike Murphy added three hits and extended his on-base streak to 65 consecutive games.
Dave Albertson added three hits and
Brandon Calafut had two doubles and three RBI.
Mike D'Amara drove in three runs and
Jeff Slanovec and
Bubba Jasinski blasted solo homers.
The Cougars grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first and went ahead 7-3 in the third, highlighted by Jasinski's homer.
Trailing 17-9, MU used a six-run seventh to pull within 17-15. Slanovec led off with a solo homer and Calafut ripped a two-run double.
Manhattanville answered with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game away.
In the nightcap, Murphy, Newman and Rob Albertson all had two hits.
The Cougars are 21-18 and will play Marywood in their season finale, Sunday at 1:00 at PNC Field.
