Catie Viegas scored her fifth goal of the game less than a minute into the second overtime to give the Misericordia University women's lacrosse team a thrilling 18-17 win at Immaculata, Tuesday.
Viegas had five goals and an assist and
Krista Shenk added five goals and two assists as the Cougars improved to 2-2.
Emily Foley had four goals and
Kate Pagnotta added three goals for the Cougars.
Camilla Hansen added a goal for MU.
Shenk and Hansen gave MU an early 2-0 lead before Immaculata scored three straight to take a 3-2 lead.
The teams exchanged goals throughout the rest of the period as the Mighty Macs took an 11-8 lead at intermission.
After the Macs took a 12-8 lead early in the second period, Foley, Shenk, Pagnotta and Viegas combined to score four straight goals for a 12-12 tie with 18:04 to play.
Immaculata built a 16-13 lead with 5:57 remaining, but Shenk and Foley scored back-to-back goals to get within 16-15 and Pagnotta forced overtime with a game-tying goal with 13 seconds left in regulation.
Immaculata took a 17-16 lead in the first OT, but Foley tied it to set up Viegas' game-winner.
The Cougars will host Elizabethtown, Saturday at 1:00.
