Marks, Cougars Edge FDU-Florham

Christine Marks had 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a hard-fought 71-69 win over FDU-Florham, Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center.

Jesse Robinson and Tyann McDaniel added 16 points each for the Cougars who improved to 10-8 overall and 6-2 in the Freedom Conference.

Robinson made a pair of free throws to give Misericordia a 71-67 lead with 1:10 to play, but FDU tied it on a driving layup just 10 seconds later.

The Devils missed two layups to tie the game in the closing seconds.

The Cougars led throughout much of the game and built their biggest lead, 42-36, on a Hannah Seely jumper early in the second half.

After FDU tied it, 44-44, Marks put the Cougars back in front on a nice pass from Katie Drayton and McDaniel drained a deep three-pointer for a 49-45 lead with 13:04 to play.

Marks' turnaround jumper made it 51-46 and Lauren Smicherko added a free throw for a 52-46 lead with 11:13 to go.

FDU rallied to take a 55-54 lead, but Robinson's putback gave MU a 56-55 advantage with 7:34 remaining.

McDaniel buried another three-pointer for a 59-55 lead with 6:32 left, but the Devils battled back to take a 61-59 lead three minutes later.

Marks completed a three-point play for a 63-61 lead, but the Devils immediately tied it, 63-63.

McDaniel hit a jumper in the lane to put the Cougars ahead for good Marks made it 67-63 with a pair of free throws with 2:28 left.

Misericordia will host Wilkes, Wednesday at 6:00.
