Manhattanville rallied late to hand the Misericordia University women's basketball team a 66-63 loss in their regular season finale, Saturday.
Hannah Seely led the Cougars with 17 points while
Christine Marks added 15 and
Kayla Sileo had 11.
In a back-and-forth game, the Cougars rallied from a six-point deficit midway through the second half and most of the way down the stretch.
But the Valiants took a 64-63 lead with seven seconds remaining and added two free throws with two seconds left.
Down 41-35 with 12:35 to go, Sileo sandwiched a pair of jumpers around two free throws by
Lauren Smicherko to forge a 41-41 tie with 10:53 to play.
Sileo put the Cougars ahead, 44-41, with a three-pointer on the next possession.
The Cougars took a 48-43 lead on layups by Marks and
Jesse Robinson with 8:07 remaining.
Manhattanville rallied for a 54-53 lead with 3:57 left, but Marks converted a three-point play to give MU a 56-54 lead at 3:15.
After the Valiants tied it,
Tyann McDaniel's layup put MU ahead, 58-56, with 2:01 to play.
Manhattanville answered again and Seely put Misericordia back in front, 60-58, with two free throws and her steal and layup made it 62-58 with under a minute to play.
The Valiants scored four straight points and Smicherko gave the Cougars their final lead, 63-62, with a free throw with 21 seconds remaining.
Misericordia concludes the regular season at 15-10 overall and 10-4 in the Freedom. The Cougars will host DeSales in a Freedom Conference semifinal, Wednesday at 6:00.
