Emily Foley scored six goals to lead the Misericordia University women's lacrosse team to a 24-13 win over Lycoming, Friday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Melina Juliano added five goals and two assists and
Krista Shenk had four goals and an assist while
Kate Pagnotta,
Gabriella Cerrone and
Brooke North all scored three goals.
Erika Proctor had 14 saves in goal for the Cougars.
Foley gave the Cougars an early lead with an unassisted goal less than one minute into the game.
After two quick goals from Lycoming, Shenk tied with an unassisted goal with 27:26 to play in the first half.
Foley, North and Cerrone scored three straight goals to give the Cougars a 5-2 lead with 21:52 remaining.
Lycoming tied it at 5-5 with three straight scores of its own before Juliano scored on a free position shot to ignite a 5-0 run and give the Cougars the lead for good.
Foley made it 7-5 with a nice down the right side and Juliano made a nice pass on the run to North in front of the net for an 8-5 advantage.
Foley added a free position tally and Shenk found Pagnotta in front of the net for a 10-5 lead with 6:53 left in the half.
After a Lyco score, Pagnotta made a nifty move in front of the net to give MU an 11-6 lead and Juliano scooped up a groundball at midfield and went the distance for a goal and a 12-6 lead.
Cerrone gathered a loose ball and fed Juliano in front of the cage for a 13-6 lead with 5:47 to play and Shenk factored in three goals to close the half.
Shenk made it 14-6 with a rebound goal and she found Cerrone who fired a shot under the crossbar before Shenk closed a 6-0 spurt with a nice move in front of the goal for a 16-6 lead.
North and Cerrone opened the second half with goals as the Cougars stretched the lead to 18-7 with 26:39 to play.
Lycoming cut the lead to 18-11 with four unanswered goals, but Juliano stopped the streak with an unassisted goal with 11:09 to go.
Up 20-13, the Cougars put the game away with four goals in the final two minutes.
Misericordia improved to 3-3 and will host Elmira, Sunday at 1:00.
