McGuigan, Johnson Lead Cougars Over E-Town

The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team used a dominant third quarter on the way to their first ever win over Elizabethtown, 10-5, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Sean McGuigan led the Cougars with four goals and Lee Blair added three goals and an assist and Patrick Johnson made 13 saves in net.

Trevor Bodnar, Pat McTague and Kyle Calabro all added goals and J.R. Lauri and Nick Santillo both had two assists.

Calabro took a feed from Lauri to score on MU's first shot of the game just over three minutes into the game.

After E-Town tied it, Bodnar made it 2-1 with an unassisted goal with 3:50 left in the opening period and McGuigan turned in front of the net and bounced a shot in for a 3-1 lead just before the end of the quarter.

Blair opened the second period by dodging a defender in front of the net and bouncing a shot in for a 4-1 lead.

The Blue Jays scored twice in the second quarter to cut MU's lead to 4-3 at intermission.

McGuigan and the Cougars took over in the third quarter.

Lauri found a driving McGuigan from behind the net to give MU a 5-3 lead with 10:20 to go in the third period.

McGuigan ripped a shot from 8-yards out on the right side for a 6-3 lead with 4:50 left and added another goal from the same spot just 20 seconds later.

Blair found McTague on the run to give the Cougars an 8-3 lead at 2:03.

Blair charged out from behind the net and turned and fired for a 9-3 lead just 15 seconds before the end of the third period.

Blair finished MU's scoring with an instant replay just 37 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Misericordia improved to 5-1 and will travel to Mt. St. Mary, Wednesday.
