Foley's Game-Winner Lifts MU Women

Emily Foley scored three goals, including the game-winner with 2:09 to play, to lift the Misericordia University women's lacrosse team to a 14-13 win over Eastern, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Melina Juliano led the Cougars with five goals and an assist and Krista Shenk and Brooke North both added two goals.

Becca Kranz made seven saves in goal while Erika Proctor made three saves over the final 6:38 to earn the win.

Misericordia broke a 6-6 tie with six consecutive goals to take a 12-6 lead with 14:13 to play.

But Eastern responded with a 6-0 run of its own over seven minutes to tie it 13-13 with 4:20 to go.

Juliano gave the Cougars an early lead with a free position shot just two minutes into the game.

After Eastern scored two straight goals, Shenk tied it with a pass from Foley with 23:13 left in the first half.

Juliano put MU ahead with another free position shot and won the ensuing draw and found Brooke North in front for a 4-2 lead with 20:35 to go.

Following an Eastern goal, Foley picked up the ball at midfield and raced down the middle and fired a low shot for a 6-3 lead with 6:26 to go.

Eastern answered with two goals in the final 11 seconds to get within 6-5.

The Eagles tied in the opening minute of the second half, but the Cougars responded with six straight goals.

Jenny Perucca found Shenk from the right wing to give MU a 7-6 lead less than 30 seconds later.

Foley found Emily Hegner in the same spot to make it 8-6 with 25:41 to go.

North came from behind the net and fired a shot inside the left post to give MU a 9-6 lead with 24:55 remaining.

Juliano drove down the middle to give the Cougars 10-6 lead and she used a nice spin move to her left before bouncing home a shot for an 11-6 lead with 19:26 to go.

Foley came from the behind the cage and stuffed a shot inside the left post for a 12-6 advantage midway through the second period.

After an Eagles goal, Juliano took the draw, raced down field and fired a shot from the right side for a 13-7 lead with 12:34 remaining.

The Eagles scored six goals over the next seven minutes to tie it before Foley's game-winner.

Misericordia improved to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the Freedom and conclude the regular season, Saturday at Arcadia.
