Catie Viegas scored a career-high six goals and added an assist but the Misericordia University women's lacrosse team couldn't keep up with the Immaculata attack, falling to the Mighty Macs 21-15 on Thursday afternoon.
Brooke North added four goals and an assist for the Cougars while
Kate Pagnotta posted three goals and
Jenny Perucca and
Emily Hegner each scored once. Allie Elmes led MU with five ground balls and caused three turnovers while Perucca added four ground balls also caused three turnovers.
Viegas scored just 40 seconds in to get the Cougars (0-4) out to an early lead but Immaculata responded with three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead just seven minutes into the game. Viegas notched another goal to cut the deficit to one but the Mighty Macs' Allison Jackavick responded to push the lead back to 4-2.
Back-to-back goals by North tied the score at 4-4 and MU took a 5-4 lead on a Perucca goal with 15:13 remaining in the first half.
That would be the last lead the Cougars would see, however, as the Mighty Macs used an 8-1 run to extend their lead to 12-6 with 5:54 remaining before the teams traded goals to make it a 13-7 game at halftime.
The Mighty Macs added two more goals in the opening minutes of the second half to take their biggest lead of the game at 15-7. The Cougars would respond with a 6-1 run of their own to close within three at 16-13, but Immaculata was able to hold on for the victory.
MU will return to action on Monday when they travel to Morrisville State for a 5:00 PM contest.
