The Misericordia University women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaking 21-20 loss at Manhattanville, Sunday.
The Cougars took a 20-18 lead with under six minutes to play, but Manhattanville scored the game's final three goals over the final 3:48 to claim the victory.
Catie Viegas led the Cougars with six goals and an assist and
Melina Juliano added five goals and an assist.
Brooke North had four goals and an assist and
Jenny Perucca added two goals and two assists.
Juliano added five draw controls and four groundballs and Viegas had four draw controls.
With Manhattanville leading 4-1 midway through the first half, Viegas and Juliano scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 4-3 with just under 11 minutes to in the half.
Manhattanville rattled off four straight goals and stretched the lead to 10-5 with 4:52 to go in the half.
But, the Cougars responded with a 6-0 run to close the half and went to intermission tied, 10-10.
Perucca started the spurt with an unassisted goal with 4:14 to go and Juliano scored two straight to make it 10-7.
Ali Elmes and Juliano scored 18 seconds apart and North ended the first half scoring with 11 seconds remaining.
Elmes gave MU its first lead, 13-12, less than two minutes into the second half, but the Valiants rallied to take a 17-16 lead with 12:23 to play.
Emily Hegner, North and Viegas combined for three straight goals to put MU ahead, 19-17 with 10:40 left.
Viegas made it 20-18 with 5:49 remaining, but Manhattanville scored three times over the final 3:48.
Misericordia will host Wilkes, Wednesday.
