The Misericordia University women's lacrosse team suffered its second straight heartbreaking loss, 18-17, to Wilkes, Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Catie Viegas scored the game-tying goal with 26 seconds remaining in the second half, but Wilkes' Madeleine Brownsey scored the game-winning goal just 10 seconds later.
Viegas led Misericordia with four goals and
Brooke North and Ali Elmes both added three.
After Wilkes opened an early 3-1 lead, Misericordia used an 8-0 run to take a 9-3 lead with 18:15 remaining in the first half.
North and Elmes both scored twice during the spurt.
Elmes used a spin move in front of the net to make it 6-3 and drove down the middle off a feed from
Jenny Perucca to give MU a 7-3 lead with 21:02 to go.
Perucca found North driving down the middle for an 8-3 lead and Pagnotta scored in front of the net to stretch the lead to 9-3.
Wilkes closed the half on a 4-1 run to cut MU's lead to 10-7 seven at halftime.
The Colonels opened the second half with four straight goals to take an 11-10 lead and
Emily Hegner responded with a free position goal to tie it 11-11.
Trailing 16-14 with 6:11 to go, Viegas came from behind the net and stuffed a shot under the crossbar to get MU within one with 3:45 remaining.
North took a pass from Elmes in front of the cage and fired a close-range shot to tie it, 16-16, less than 30 seconds later.
Erika Proctor made 15 saves in goal for the Cougars.
