The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought 11-9 decision to Eastern, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Sean McGuigan led the Cougars with three goals while
Kyle Calabro added two goals and three assists.
McGuigan gave the Cougars a quick when he finished off a nice pass from Calabro just over five minutes into the game.
Calabro added an unassisted goal two minutes later to make it 2-0.
Following an Eastern goal, Josh Schwartz scooped up a ground ball and scored on a three-man advantage from the wing to put MU ahead, 3-1, with 49 seconds left in the opening quarter.
Eastern held a 3-1 advantage in the second period and the teams went to halftime tied, 4-4.
Nick Santillo opened the second half off a nice feed from
Mason Quickel for a 5-4 lead.
Calabro scored immediately off the ensuing face-off to make it 6-4 with 12:20 to go in the third and McGuigan whipped a low shot from the right wing inside the far post with 10:34 to play in the third period.
Eastern responded with four straight goals to take an 8-7 lead and
Kyle Purvis answered with a goal with 3:42 to go as the third period ended in an 8-8 tie.
The Eagles scored a short-handed goal to start the fourth quarter and added a man-up goal to take a 10-8 lead with 10:55 remaining.
Adam Lenhard got MU within one with a man-up goal with 9:07 remaining, but the Eagles ended the scoring two minutes later.
Misericordia, 8-6 (3-2 Freedom), will visit Arcadia for their regular season finale, Saturday.
