MU Men's Lacrosse Falls in Freedom Title Game

Eastern University used a big second quarter to break open a tie game en route to a 22-6 win over Misericordia University in the Freedom Conference men's lacrosse title game.

Tied 2-2 after one period, the Eagles used a 7-0 run to take a 9-2 lead and led 12-3 at halftime.

J.R. Lauri led the Cougars with two goals while Matt Gonzalez, Nick Santillo, Trevor Bodnar and Peter Paccione all added one goal.

Patrick Johnson made 18 saves, including seven in the first quarter.

Eastern opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game, but Paccione answered for the Cougars three minutes later.

Gonzalez gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead with 1:43 to play in the opening quarter, but the Eagles tied it with just under a minute left.

After Eastern built a 9-2 lead with 6:54 remaining before halftime, Santillo and Lauri both scored for MU in a 10-second span to make it 9-4.

The Eagles put the game away with eight unanswered goals in the third period to take a 20-5 lead.

Misericordia, 10-7, will await word on earning an ECAC Tournament berth for the second consecutive season.
