Box Score Melina Juliano scored five goals as the Misericordia women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to five games with an 11-8 win over Eastern, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Allie Elmes added three goals and
Kate Pagnotta,
Liz Mulvey and
Jenny Perucca all scored once as the Cougars improved to 5-6 overall and 3-0 in the Freedom Conference.
Katie McLoughlin made seven saves in goal for the Cougars.
Pagnotta and Perucca were honored along with classmates
Catie Viegas, Ali Sacco and
Erika Proctor prior to the game as part of Senior Appreciation Day.
Juliano added eight draw controls, four groundballs and three caused turnovers while Elmes had four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
After Eastern took a 1-0 lead in the opening minute, Elmes fired a free position shot inside the left post three minutes later.
Elmes answered another Eastern goal with a man-up free position shot to tie it, 2-2, just over 10 minutes into the game.
Juliano gave the Cougars their first lead when she intercepted a pass in front of her own net and went the length of the field to score and make it 3-2 midway through the first half.
After Eastern scored twice to regain the lead, Perucca cut across the middle and slid a shot under the crossbar to tie it, 4-4, with 6:01 left in the half.
Juliano juked a defender and took a nice pass from
Emily Hegner to give MU a 6-4 lead just 15 seconds later.
Perucca found Pagnotta in front of the net for a turn-and-shoot goal to give Misericordia a 6-4 lead with 5:02 remaining before halftime.
Juliano took a free position shot from the top the circle and fired a shot over the Eastern goalie's shoulder to open the second half and stretch MU's lead to 7-4.
Following an Eastern score, Elmes split to defenders and drove down the middle before bouncing a shot in for an 8-5 lead with 22:25 to go.
The Eagles cut it to 8-7 with 17:59 to play thanks to consecutive free position goals.
The Cougars responded with three straight tallies to put the game away.
Juliano made it 9-7 with a free position goal and Mulvey spun around the defender and drove from the left side to make it 10-7 with 16:31 remaining.
Juliano followed with a man-up goal with 15:10 to play to cap MU's scoring.
The Cougars will host Bryn Athyn College, Tuesday at 7:00.
