MU Men's Lax Wins, Clinches First Round Home Game

Box Score The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team locked up the second seed in the Freedom Conference Championships with a 9-6 win at FDU-Florham, Saturday.

Brandon Winslow led the Cougars attack with four goals and Lane Kocovsky had two goals and an assist while Pat Kellish, Trevor Bodnar and Andrew Reynolds all added goals.

Patrick Johnson made 21 saves in net to earn the win.

Reynolds had a team-high four groundballs while Alec Kellish added three.

Bodnar gave the Cougars an early lead with an unassisted goal at 3:22 of the first period.

Kocovsky made it 2-0 with an assist from Chris Fleming four minutes later and the score stood through end of the stanza.

Winslow scored in the opening minute of the second period to stretch the lead to 3-0.

After an FDU-Florham goal, Reynolds answered with a man-up goal and Winslow scored twice in less than a minute for a 6-1 lead with 4:33 to go before halftime.

The Devils scored again in the final minute of the second quarter.

FDU-Florham struck twice late in the third quarter and again early in the fourth to pull within 6-5.

After an FDU goal, Kocovsky answered to keep MU up, 8-6, with 34 seconds remaining and Kellish added insurance goal with four seconds to play.

Misericordia ended the regular season 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the Freedom Conference.

The same two teams will meet again when Misericordia hosts a Freedom semifinal, Wednesday at Mangelsdorf Field.
