Erin Baker Scores Seven Goals in Semifinal Win Over King's

Box Score Erin Baker scored seven goals to lead the Misericordia University women's lacrosse team to a 17-14 win over King's in the Freedom Conference women's lacrosse semifinals, Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Melina Juliano and Liz Mulvey had four goals each for the Cougars who improved to 9-8 and advanced to the Freedom championship game for the first time.

Gabriella Moroccu had five goals and two assists to lead King's.

Breanna Schurgot had three goals and Kendra McCoy, Sarah Almony and Anastasia Araviakis all scored twice.

Katie McLoughlin made three saves for Misericordia while Victoria Zawacki had 20 stops for King's.

King's took a 2-0 in the opening five minutes with goals from Schurgot and Morrocu, but MU answered with six straight goals as Juliano and Mulvey alternated goals.

Juliano went one-on-one with a King's defender and drove down the middle before firing a shot over the goalie's right shoulder.

Mulvey tied it off a nice pass from Juliano from the right wing.

Juliano found Mulvey on the run down the middle of the lane to cap the run at 19:06.

Morrocu dodged an MU defender to pull King's within 6-3 and Zawacki came up with two stops on free position shots.

The teams traded goals over the next eight minutes with Baker converting a fastbreak off a turnover to put the Cougars up 9-4.

King's responded with three straight goals before Mulvey scored a free position goal.

Schurgot took a pass from Morrocu on the left flank to finish the first half scoring with 35 seconds remaining.

King's pulled even early in the second half, but Juliano answered with a free position goal in the upper right corner.

Garcia cut across the middle and took a pass from Ashley Hobbs behind the net and whipped a shot inside the right post for a 12-10 lead.

North stuffed home a goal from in front and Baker finished a fast break off a draw control for a 14-11 lead.

After King's tied, 14-14, Baker gave MU the lead for good with a drive down the right side with 7:28 to play.

Baker added two goals in a one-minute span to give the Cougars a 17-14 lead with 3:38 to go.

Juliano led MU with 12 draw controls while Allie Elmes had five ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Garcia and Mulvey both had four ground balls.

Araviakis led King's with five draw controls.  Megan O'Brien had a team-high four ground balls and Schurgot had four caused turnovers.

Misericordia will visit FDU-Florham, Saturday.
