Box Score The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season to Methodist, 13-12 in overtime, Friday evening in Clearwater, FL.
Chris Fleming scored four goals and
Jake Kocovsky added three while
Brandon Winslow had two goals and two assists.
Kocovsky won 13 of 23 face-offs and had a team-high six ground balls while Fleming and
Andrew Phillips both had five ground balls.
The Cougars took an early 3-0 lead as Fleming,
Phil Fraher and Kocovsky all scored less than minutes into the game.
Methodist scored twice, but Fleming and Pat Kellish both scored to give the Cougars a 5-2 lead with 4:31 left in the first period.
The Monarchs closed the first quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 6-5 lead.
Methodist scored three goals in the second quarter to take a 9-5 lead into halftime.
Winslow scored to open the third quarter and Fleming and Kocovsky added goals as the Cougars pulled within 10-8 heading to the final period.
Kocovsky scored a man-up goal early in the fourth quarter and Winslow answered a Methodist goal with an unassisted tally to get the Cougars within 11-10 with 10:03 left.
After allowing a man-up goal, MU got a goal from Fleming with 8:26 to play and
Kyle Reese netted the equalizer with 4:53 left in regulation.
Methodist got the game-winner midway through the first OT period.
Antonio Whyte suffered the loss in goal while making seven saves in 45:49 in relief of Matt Beck.
The Cougars are 3-1 and will host Scranton, Wednesday.
