Box Score

The Misericordia women's lacrosse team dropped their home opener to Scranton, 12-10, Tuesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Lexee Willey led the Cougars with five goals. Emily Connell had two goals, an assist and seven draw controls and Amy Roth had three assists and also scored a goal. Lauren Weitzel had four caused turnovers and Tori Hodges made nine saves in her first start of the season.

Willey opened the scoring with a free position goal just 58 seconds into the game, running in from the right of the goalie and fired a shot into the back of the net.

After Scranton tied it up, Roth found Willey cutting toward the net who fired the ball into the lower right corner of the net to take the lead again. Roth found the back of the net a few minutes later at 24:54 on a free position shot to extend the Cougar lead to 3-1.

Scranton tightened up their defense after that, not allowing another goal the rest of the half while scoring three to take a 4-3 halftime lead.

The Royals extended their run to seven straight goals to take an 8-3 lead with 19:58 remaining in the game.

Kaila Quinlivan stopped the bleeding for Misericordia when she took a pass from Emily Connell and ran down the middle toward the goal and fired a shot into the back of the net.

Scranton responded with two consecutive goals to take a 10-4 lead, but Misericordia clawed their way back, scoring four straight goals to get back to within two with 9:36 to go. Kate Raab and Connell scored the first of the four goals and Willey scored the final two.

With 4:27 left, the Cougars faced a four-goal deficit, but Connell got them one closer with a free position goal. Willey scored with 2:14 to go to make it a 12-10 game, but that ended up being the final score as the Cougars were unable to get any closer.

Misericordia is back in action, Thursday when it will host Marywood at 4:00.
