The Misericordia University women's lacrosse team defeated Widener, 23-11, in a game that was played as an exhibition due a glitch with possession clocks, Wednesday night.
Michelle Torzilli led the Cougars with eight goals and
Justine Johnson added four goals and an assist.Â
Lauren Weitzel had three goals and two assists and
Molly Celesky added three goals.
Alyssa Grieco scored twice and
Taylor Hannaberry had a goal and four assists.
Weitzel had a team-high 12 draw controls and
Maggie McGovern made six saves in goal.
Torzilli scored three goals as the Cougars jumped out to an early 6-2 lead.
Widener answered with three straight goals to get within 6-5 with 12:58 left in the first half, but the Cougars rattled off six consecutive goals to pull away.
Torzilli, Johnson and Celesky all scored twice in a six-minute span as the Cougars took a 12-5 lead.
Grieco, Torzilli and
Genevieve Montanye all scored later in the half as MU stretched its lead to 15-7 at halftime.
Torzilli and Grieco scored early in the second half and Widener never got closer than eight goals the rest of the way.
MU will host Arcadia, Saturday at 1:00.
