The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team opened the 2021 season with an impressive 14-11 win over Eastern, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Patrick Luzzi led the Cougars with four goals and eight ground balls and Robert Wagner added two goals, four assists and five ground balls.

Allen Thomas and Nick Torzilli both had two goals and an assist while Carson Venis, Michael Kilgallon, Kyle Vandenberg and Ryan Vandenberg all scored goals.

Garrett Heidecker was 20-28 on face-offs and Chris Straub made 10 saves to earn the win in goal.

Wagner gave the Cougars the early lead with a goal from the right wing just over a minute into the game.

Torzilli made it 2-0 less than two minutes later.

After an Eastern goal, Luzzi, Thomas and Venis scored in a four-minute span to make it 5-1 with 3:16 left in the first quarter.

The Cougars scored four straight goals to open the second quarter to take a 9-2 lead before Eastern rallied with two goals of their own to get within 9-4 at halftime.

Eastern added a goal to open the third period, but the Cougars responded with three straight for a 12-5 lead.

Eastern scored four straight goals in the fourth quarter to cut MU's lead to 13-11 with 8:03 to go before added an insurance goal with 5:20 to play.
