2023 MU Baseball Schedule Release

1/19/2023 1:07:00 PM

The Misericordia University baseball team will play another competitive schedule in 2023.  The Cougars were 28-17 a year ago playing the third most-difficult schedule in the nation.

The Cougars MAC Freedom schedule opens a week early in 2023 due to the addition of a ninth conference opponent as Lycoming returns to varsity status for the first time since 1971. Misericordia will open MAC Freedom play with a three-game series against King's, March 12-13.  The Cougars will look to avenge their 2022 MAC Freedom Championships loss to preseason #11 Arcadia with the last regular season conference series, April 28-29.

The MAC Freedom semifinal and final series are set for May 5-6 and May 12-13, respectively.

The Cougars will also host a conference game against Stevens in Bristol, CT, April 13 to honor the Bristol Police Department and 2018 alumni MU Alec Iurato. The BPD suffered a fatal attack on October 12, 2022 when Sergeant Dustin DeMonte and Officer Alex Hamzy were killed and Officer Iurato was shot in the line of duty.

The Cougars will honor the Bristol Police Department and all three officers in a game where all the proceeds will benefit the families of the fallen officers. Iurato was an infielder on four MAC Freedom Championship teams and the 2018 World Series team for the Cougars.

The non-conference schedule also lines up to be very competitive again as MU opens with their annual  doubleheader against #24 nationally ranked Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, February 18.

The following weekend, the Cougars travel to Union, New Jersey for games against perennial regional powerhouses Kean and Haverford.

Misericordia will play seven games in Port Charlotte, FL in March, including 2022 World Series participant and preseason #9 Baldwin Wallace, MAC Commonwealth champion Lebanon Valley and perennial regional powers Heidelberg, St. John's (MN), and Swarthmore.

The remainder of the non-conference schedule features MIT, Keystone, Scranton, Swarthmore, and Susquehanna – all of whom have made recent NCAA Tournament appearances.
