Brandon Calafut and
Nate Newman combined for seven hits and 10 RBI to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 19-6 win over King's in a Freedom Conference game, Monday.
Calafut had four hits, including a triple and a homer, and Newman had three hits, including a homer.
Mike Murphy and
Mike D'Amara both had three hits and
Scott Huddle, Cody Hack and
Rob Albertson all added two hits.
Jamie Philippi scattered seven hits over six innings to pick up the win on the mound.
Misericordia went ahead 2-0 in the first when Murphy led off the game with a triple and D'Amara reached on error before a two-run single by Newman.
After King's made it 2-1 in the second, the Cougars added two runs in the third on a two-run triple by Calafut.
Misericordia erupted for five runs in the fourth thanks to Calafut's three-run homer.
Tthe Cougars added five more runs in fifth with Hack, Murphy, D'Amara and Newman all collecting RBI to make it 14-2.
Newman's two-run homer highlighted a five-run seventh for the Cougars while Albertson and
Bubba Jasinski added run-scoring singles.
Misericordia improved to 16-13 overall and 5-5 in the Freedom and will host Albright, Tuesday at 3:30.
