A huge offensive day carried the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team past visiting Mt. St. Mary 19-3, Wednesday at Mangelsdorf Field.
Sophomore
Kyle Calabro scored three times while a trio of Cougars dished out four assists:
Lee Blair (two goals),
J.R. Lauri (one goal) and
Patrick McTague.
Zachary Buckley had a hat trick and six ground balls, while freshman
Nicholas Santillo added three goals and an assist.
Matt Gonzalez and
Frank McKenna each scored twice, and freshmen
A.J. Adipietro and
Jeff Zeoli notched their first collegiate goals in the victory.
Buckley scored twice on long-distance shots in the first quarter, rifling in the opening goal and scoring again from deep to make it 4-1 late in the period.
After Mt. St. Mary tied the game at 1-1, Gonzalez sliced through the Knight defense to make it 2-1 and McKenna rolled one in after McTague was saved from point-blank range.
Blair hit the post late in the first, but Calabro bounced in a shot and Blair finished a late attempt to give Misericordia a 6-1 advantage heading into the second quarter.
The Cougars poured in on, with Calabro scoring early in the second and MU having another goal disallowed for a foot in the crease.
Down 8-2 at the break, the Knights scored right off the opening faceoff of the third quarter, but Calabro answered less than a minute later.
With 12:21 left in the third, McTague found Santillo with an outstanding pass to the back post that put Misericordia up 10-3. Late in the period, McKenna snuck into the zone unguarded and Lauri found him with another nice assist.
Junior
Ryan Kay made three saves to earn the win, while reserve
Matt Garnjost played great in the fourth quarter (five saves, no goals allowed).
Misericordia won 20-of-26 faceoffs, led by junior
