Zachary Buckley and Kyle Calabro scored big momentum-killing goals in the fourth quarter as the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team held off Lebanon Valley 9-7 for the Cougars' second consecutive conference victory, Wednesday at Mangelsdorf Field.

Calabro had four goals to lead the Cougar attack, while Buckley added two goals and an assist. Junior Lee Blair (two goals, two assists) and sophomores J.R. Lauri (two assists) and Matt Gonzalez (one goal) were also on the scoresheet for Misericordia.

MU had led 7-3 in the third quarter but the Dutchmen scored a late power play goal and added one early in the fourth to make it interesting.

With 10:24 left in the game, Buckley finished off a crucial goal to take back control of the game and put his team ahead 8-5. LVC scored another power play goal midway through the period, but Calabro scored after MU burned off two minutes to again keep the Dutchmen at bay.

Lebanon Valley scored once more with 1:27 to go, but Misericordia won the ensuing faceoff and the clock soon ran out.

Early in the third quarter it was all Blair, with the junior attack assisting Calabro and then scoring a highlight-reel no-look backhand that made it 7-3.

MU goalie Ryan Kay made seven saves, including a great point-blank stop just after Blair's second. The junior also stopped the rebound.

In the first half, Buckley beat his man on MU's first period of sustained possession. His shot was saved up high but Gonzalez was at the doorstep to finish the rebound. Calabro added two goals in the opening quarter, with LVC answering each time to stay within a goal.

In the second quarter, again on Misericordia's first chance, Buckley went high and this time managed to rifle in his shot from the right side.

With 12:21 left before the break, the Cougars went on their first power play and scored when Blair lept from just outside the crease to score.

Misericordia could have pushed its advantage further before halftime but Calabro's late goal was called off for a foot in the crease.

Freshman Jared Hunt had a team-high six ground balls and also caused a pair of turnovers. Transfer junior Rob Kats had five ground balls and won 9-of-11 faceoffs, and Don Squire continued his solid defensive play with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The Cougars improve to 6-2, 2-1 and travel to Widener on Saturday.
