Misericordia Men's Lacrosse Announces 2021 Team Captains

1/8/2021 5:58:00 AM

Misericordia University has announced Pat Luzzi, Rob Wagner and Spencer Sundeberg as its men's lacrosse team captains for the 2021 season.

"We are certain that we have the right young men to be leading us as our 2021 team captains," said head coach Jim Ricardo, who is entering his 19th year at the helm.  "We've had a long line of tremendous leaders move our program forward in years past and these three young men are prime examples of what a Misericordia University lacrosse player looks like. They exemplify the term student-athlete as all three maintain a grade point average above 3.40."

All three captains are enrolled in Misericordia's College of Health Sciences with Wagner and Sundeberg majoring in physical therapy while Luzzi is studying nursing.

In a shortened 2020 season, Luzzi lead the team and MAC Freedom with five points per game averaging five a game.   In 2019, he set the school single-season scoring record with 78 points.
A senior in his second year as a team captain, Luzzi was a first-team All-MAC Freedom selection in 2019.

Wagner, a senior, is also in his second year as team captain.  "Robert has been an absolute grinder for us since the day he walked on campus," said Ricardo.  "He has been one of the hardest workers in our program and takes great pride in never being out-worked."

In 2020, Wagner was off to a hot start with 10 goals and two assists to go along with 14 ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Sundeberg, a junior, enters the 2021 season as one of the team's most experienced defenders as he started every game in each of his first two seasons.  "Spencer is the quarterback of our defense," said Ricardo.  "He also has the task of covering every opponent's top offensive weapon.  He was on track to have a breakout sophomore season."
