MU Football Set for MAC-Centennial Bowl

The Misericordia University football team will travel to Carnegie Mellon for a MAC-Centennial Bowl Game, Saturday at 12:00.

The Cougars are 7-3 overall and finished tied for second in the MAC at 7-2.  The Tartans are 5-5 and finished tied for fourth in the Centennial Conference at 3-4.

This is the first ever meeting between MU and CMU.

Admission at Richard M. Lackner Field at Gesling Stadium is $11 for adults and $4 for students.  College students with valid ID are free.

The Cougars are making their MAC-Centennial Bowl appearance and their first since back-to-back postseason berths in 2018 and 2019.

Under first-year head coach Steve Cushing, the Cougars finished third in the MAC in scoring with 28.0 points per game. The Cougars led the league in fourth-down conversions (29-42) at 69.0%.

The Cougars are led by nine All-MAC players, including first-team linebacker Gavin Morris and tight end Billy McCleery.

Morris finished second in the MAC with 9.6 tackles per game and is Misericordia's career leader with 271 tackles.

McCleery averaged nearly 10 yards per catch on 13 receptions.

Quarterback Jacob Hunter and wide receiver Jacob Hoy were named second-team.

Wide receiver Anthony Rucci, offensive linemen Jeff Kozerski and Daniel Robledo, safety Nate Malarkey and wide receiver/kick returner Jassan Whittaker all received honorable mention.

Hunter was second in the MAC in total offense with 275.0 yards per game.

Carnegie Mellon had 16 players named to the All-Centennial team, including five first-team selections.

Defensive lineman Mitchell Stokey, defensive back Ethan Ming and linebacker Jack Lawson were named to the first team along with offensive lineman Sam Alligood and wide receiver Brendan McCullough.

Quarterback Joey McGinnis led the Centennial Conference with 269.4 passing yards per game while McCullough was third in the league with 94.0 receiving yards per game.  Reece Kolke was fourth in the league with 72.8 receiving yards per game.

Leighton Tarke was eighth in the league with 6.5 tackles per game while Stokey and Bennett Grace were third and fourth in the league, respectively, in tackles for loss.  Stokey also led the league with seven sacks.

Justin Caputo led the CC with 11 field goals, including a 45-yarder.
