Several members of the Misericordia baseball team are enjoying success at high levels of collegiate summer baseball this year.
Â
Junior pitcher Mike Turton is 1-1 with a 2.45 earned run average for the Montauk Mustangs of the Hampton Collegiate League in New York. Â Â He has 12 strikeouts and has allowed just 11 hits in 14.2 innings in four appearances.
Â
Elliot Forde has five strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA in nine innings in five games with the Savannah Bananas in the Coastal Plains League.
Â
Senior
Garrett Pelko and junior
Dan Zurowski have yet to allow an earned run for their respective teams. Pelko has nine strikeouts in 8.2 innings for the Syracuse Salt Cats in the New York Collegiate League while Zurowski has one save in three games for the Allentown Railers in the Atlantic Collegiate League.Â
Â
Pelko and Turton figure to bolster a deep and talented starting rotation in 2017 for the Cougars along with senior
Tim Burek and sophomore
Zach Mason. Pelko, Mason and Turton combined for a 14-2 record last season. Forde and Zurowski will hope to solidify the bullpen for Misericordia next spring. In 2016, Forde led the team with 15 appearances and five saves.
Â
Sophomore
Scott Carton is batting .289 in 10 games for the Staten Island Tide in the Atlantic Collegiate League. Carton has collected 11 hits, six RBI and six runs in 38 at-bats. Carton will look to replace graduated seniors
Mike Comerford and
D.J. Navoczynski in the outfield and hit in the middle of the order for the Cougars in 2017.
